5 Gardening & Lawn Tips: How to Take Care of Dog Urine Grass Burns

By operations@podiumpetproducts.com / Blog / No Comments / May 20, 2016

Summer is the perfect season to get outside and embrace Mother Nature. From pool parties to family barbecues, a lot of time is spent outdoors and the last thing you want is unsightly dog urine grass burns. It’s important to make sure your garden and lawn is in its best condition for all of your family, friends, and neighbors to see and enjoy. Keep your property green, healthy and thriving this summer with these helpful gardening and lawn tips!

1. Pick the Perfect Garden Location: Location, location, location! One of the most important things to consider when planting a garden is location. Most summer vegetables need six to eight hours of sun a day, so pick the sunniest place in your yard. Healthy soil is an important component in growing healthy crops. Consider doing a soil test to see what nutrients may be lacking. Most flower gardens will do well in the summer sun too. If they do begin to wilt, this is probably a sign they need more water. Consider adding additional mulch to help plants retain moisture.

2. Choose the Right Plant at the Right Time: Vegetables are divided into two categories: warm season and cool season. When planting in the summer, pay close attention to your area’s frost-free date, when there is zero statistical chance of a frost. It’s a smart idea to wait until after this date has passed to plant. A few crops that thrive in summer gardens include; okra, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, squash, beans, peppers, eggplants, field peas, pumpkins, tomatoes, and lima bean.

3. Watering: In the dog days of summer water will evaporate quickly in the heat, especially during mid-day. It’s important to remember to water flowers, lawns and crops in the morning hours to give them vital moisture and time for the water to reach their thirsty roots. There’s usually not much wind in the morning to blow away the water droplets, which is another benefit.  Avoid watering in evenings because water can cling to the grass overnight, which can cause lawn diseases.

4. Garden Care: In order to keep weeds at bay, try to pull them out as soon as they appear. This is a much better option than tugging at them later after they’ve established a strong root system.  Having a good foundation of soil is crucial to a healthy and beautiful garden. Building your own compost pile is a great way to add nutrients to your living plants. It’s a wonderful way to recycle too! All you will need is a bin with a base of soil to fill in with your biodegradable goods. Leftover foods, newspaper, cardboard are a few biodegradable options. Be sure to cover the compost bin to keep the bugs out!

5. Keep The Lawn Healthy, Green & Lush: Mowing the lawn too low can often cause brown, bare, weed-infested lawns. Remove no more than one-third of the height of grass during mowing. This will ensure the root system is not stressed.

For dog owners, consider using Dog Rocks® to eliminate lawn burn and maintain a clean and green yard. The nitrogen in dog urine can cause dog urine grass burns, which are unpleasant brown spots of dead grass scattered across the yard. Dog Rocks® filter out impurities from water such as tin, ammonia and nitrates.

Simply place Dog Rocks® in your canine’s water bowl for a cleaner source of water, while eliminating urine burn on grass. Without the impurities in the water, Dog Rocks® actually help your dog fertilize your lawn. This is great for you, your dog & your lawn, which makes this unique product that will benefit everyone this summer season.

These five simple tips can vastly improve the life of your garden and lawn. Sunlight, water, compost and products like Dog Rocks® for pet owners will help maintain a healthy and green property all summer long!
