Pancake day for dogs
At Dog Rocks, we have had pancake day starred and circled in our calendars all year and now it’s finally here…hooray for pancakes! What better way to celebrate than with a pancake recipe for dogs!
Whilst we are gorging ourselves on pancakes, syrup and sugar, we would hate to think our four legged friends are missing out, and for that reason we are sharing our favourite dog friendly pancake recipes.
Just like all good things in life, pancakes for dogs (and us) should be eaten in moderation, so make sure your pup only has a few at a time. As a general tip, make sure you avoid adding any chocolate, grapes or raisins to your recipes, as these can all be toxic.
Dog Potato pancake recipe – Makes roughly 20 x 9 cm pancakes
3 medium potatoes
Salt
½ cup milk
2 medium eggs
2 tablespoons butter
Sour cream or cottage cheese
Method
1. Boil potatoes with their skins in salted water for about 30 minutes or until tender.
2. Mash and mix in the egg yolks and milk until smooth.
3. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into mashed potatoes.
4. In a frying pan melt half of the butter when hot spoon a ping pong ball sized lump of the mashed potato mix into the pan.
5. Flatten slightly with spatula and allow to brown well on both sides. Continue until all of the mixture is cooked adding butter as needed to avoid the potato pancakes sticking.
6. Can be served with sour cream or cottage cheese.
Tips
When using potatoes in a dish for your dog it is best to leave on the skins. However you should nick off any sprouting buds and green parts as they contain toxins.
