BBQ O’Clock: Perfecting your Summer with Dog Rocks
It’s that time of year again! Summer is coming into full swing and all we can think about are those BBQ’s we all love (and finally lockdown is easing for us to do so!). Here at Dog Rocks we like to think we may have just found the perfect formula for Summer with your canine friends in mind, but what really is the key?
Safety
Well, we thought we’d start with the obvious! When your at your BBQ always make sure lighter fluid, charcoal and matches are out of reach – it’s also wise to put down your grills lid to avoid curious pups getting their feet burnt.
Not many people know, but bones are actually a major health hazard. It’s a good idea to have on hold a covered container for any leftover bones, and encourage people to avoid feeding your dog any scraps.
Finally, make sure your dog has access to plenty of shade and water – hot Summer days make for thirsty work!
Recipes for you and your dog
These certainly don’t have to be complicated, in fact the simpler the better! These are our favourites:
- Vegetable Skewers (without the skewer) – courgette, sweet potato, asparagus and bell peppers are all super healthy for dog – and you! But make sure you steer clear of the garlic and onion.
- Dog-safe Burgers – 4 pounds ground beef, 1 cup quick oats, 1 egg, 1 grated carrot, 1 courgette, 4 ounces grated cheddar cheese and 1/2 cup fresh parsley
- Frozen Watermelon Slices – doubles as the easiest frozen ice-lolly!
Garden love with Dog Rocks
We do all like to have our gardens looking in tip-top condition before we have guests round! Dog Rocks prevents lawn discolouration to ensure your grass looks its best not only in the Summer, but all year round.
You may find that as we come to days of what seems like endless sunshine, you need to up your dogs dosage as they need more water to stay hydrated. This varies for each dog due to size etc.
but once you find the correct adjustment your in for a Summer of bliss!
