5 Top Tips to Keep your Pet’s Coat Healthy and Glossy

By admin / Blog / No Comments / June 10, 2018

Sustaining a healthy coat is an integral part of your pet’s overall well-being. A sure sign of an ailing animal can be seen in the appearance of its coat. When your pet has a glossy coat, it’s usually an indicator that it’s free from skin problems caused by parasites such as worms, fleas, and ticks.

An unhealthy coat can be the result of many things. From an unhealthy diet and a lack of nutrition to the absence of a regular bathing routine, grooming sessions and regular visits to the vet.

If the coat of your pet is looking bleak, or if you’re just looking for some useful tips on how to maintain a healthy coat with a silky shine for your pet, we’ve got you covered. Here are our 5 top tips to Keep your pet’s coat healthy and glossy.

Nutrition

Ensuring your pet has a nutritious diet rich in vitamins and nourishing oils will go a long way in giving it a gorgeous coat and healthy skin. Make sure to keep your pet’s food sealed tightly in a container. Food that is kept out in the open for too long can lose its nutrients and even develop bacterial growth which may lead to health issues if your pet consumes it.

Grooming

Regular brushing of your pet’s coat will stimulate its skin and hair follicles. Brushing your pet’s hair every other day can also improve its blood circulation which increases the production of your furry friend’s natural skin oils. It’s also a fantastic bonding experience, and chances are, your pet will love you even more after every grooming session.

Yearly check-ups

If you are unsure of how often you should take your pet to the vet, the answer is once a year. This is according to Susan Barrett, who is the head of community practice at the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. In the first 12 months of your pet’s life, this will be more regularly, depending on whether it’s a cat or dog, and depending on its breed – some professionals say once a month, others say every 3 weeks until it’s 4 months old.

After its first year though, be sure to take your pet for annual check-ups. Vets will give your pet a head-to-tail physical and may recommend other tests based on any issues your pet has or anything unusual that may be discovered during the examination. When your pet reaches 7 years of age, they should be taken for a check-up at least twice a year. As mentioned before, a healthy pet will almost always have a healthy coat and skin.

Don’t over bathe

Although bathing your pet can help with their coat and skin, bathing more than once a month may have a negative effect on your domestic animal. When we wash our pets once a month, it is more than enough to keep their coats clean, but when we over bathe them, it may strip their skin and coat of its natural and essential oils. Look out for shampoos and conditioners that contain vitamin E, coconut milk/oil, flaxseed, and olive. All of these natural ingredients are beneficial to your pet’s appearance.

Supplements

All-natural feed additive supplements like PetproBio are remarkable for your pet’s overall health and vitality. This supplement will help with:

  • Better digestion
  • Healthier skin & coat
  • Immunity & resistance
  • Metabolic efficiency

A daily dose, which is easily mixed in with your pet’s food can improve its underlying microbial ecology to one that is balanced and healthy, producing optimal well-being by controlling the re-emergence of disease-causing bacteria. It is suitable for all pets, including pregnant and lactating bitches, puppies and older animals too. It’s an inexpensive way of ensuring better health for your furry companion.

Through domestication, our pets depend on us in all aspects of their lives, and so it is up to us to educate ourselves on how we can enhance their existence and provide them with the essentials they need in order to live a quality life.
